Upon hearing of Portugal’s striking southern coast and seeking the last of the European sun before autumn’s onset engulfed the entirety of the continent, Pine Cliffs Resort provided the perfect respite. Nestled along the Algarve coast and ultimate in an oasis of relaxation, this expansive property proves idyllic for singles, couples, or families alike. Its spacious accommodations, complete with local artisanal accents, and litany of divertissements only further the intrinsic appeal of this breathtaking panoramic clifftop resort. Naturally, the majority of my time was spent along the indescribably gorgeous Falésia beach, which is readily accessible via stair or lift only a short distance from the rooms. However, evenings spent indulging in a sunset aperitif at Mirador Champagne Bar proved without parallel. The setting sun transfixed my gaze as it slowly melted across the Atlantic and emblazoned pastels gently ignited the evening sky. The rugged natural beauty of the Algarve coast is something Pine Cliffs perfectly captures while simultaneously, the gracious staff ensures every amenity is available on site. This extends to providing a selection of international newspapers, perfect for perusal under the iconic pines and playful whispering winds. And though you can certainly further discover other sensational views and revel in the culture and traditions of Albufeira, fabled Faro, or other surrounding cidades, this Luxury Collection property (of additive interest for Bonvoy members) provides too many reasons to stay.
Luxuriating Sicilian Silence

Seeking a spontaneous getaway replete with relaxation and localized allure, Villa Neri verily exceeded on both counts. Sicily’s Etna Resort and Spa offers a reclusive yet resplendent venue, complete with volcanic vistas and encapsulated by vineyards, gentle oaks, and exquisite olive trees. Located in close proximity to Europe’s highest active volcano, Mount Etna, this property peacefully admires this bewitching natural wonder and provides its sophisticated antithesis in terms of accommodation. Although certainly inspired by the island’s natural surrounds, the Villa espouses luxury, tranquility, and affords ample opportunity for self-indulgence. Its inviting atmosphere, charming rooms, lovely restaurant, spacious pool, and serene spa provide plenty to allay the demands and stressors of the everyday. The Villa also finds itself conveniently located near Taormina, a site that despite the allures of staying in must absolutely be explored. (Should you opt to rent a car, the staff’s suggestion to park in Porta Catania in Taormina proved very well founded given its central location and ease of accessibility). This ancient city boasts a breathtaking Greek (and rebuilt Roman) amphitheater that ineffably frames the island’s occasionally violent beauty, Etna. The town itself also exudes abundant charm and is incontrovertibly worth a promenade – but forget not to sample the iconic and supremely delightful Pasta alla Norma or spaghetti allo scoglio. And finally, upon satisfaction of these obligatory adds, retreat once more to the restful and picturesque place representative of this intermittently tempestuous island’s raw beauty and beguiling charm, perfectly reflected by none other than Villa Neri.
