Chic Sleeps: Oslo Edit
As you may have seen from our Instagram recently we catalogued some of our chicest sleeps, from Norway to Morocco and South Africa to Greece. Though certainly we were not always able to indulge in stays such as these — imbuing design, boutique and luxe (especially early on in our traveling aventures). Nonetheless almost two decades on, the array of logements experienced affords some of our favorites — especially when it comes to the chic, and in some cases the inspiration that drew our founder there. She’ll address a few select stays, beginning with Norway, and incorporate the others in time. Though it is also fitting to discuss an intrinsic element of our methodology when it comes to travel planning and itinerary design. Which draws upon our clients’ primary interests and overlays our lens for luxury.
This fusion also incorporates local elements resident the places of travel and experiences desired. From specific chapters across millennia of history to vaunted art movements, military heritage and musical virtuosos, or exploring ancestral family origins in combination with anniversaries, these integral factors are all interwoven in the fabric of our design — and are always embedded with the luxurious. We thus seek to offer a memorable journey, namely an indulgent and inspired escape befitting a variety of price ranges. A perfect example being our Founder Joy’s New Year’s trip to Oslo — where holiday met heritage.

New Year’s Eve in Oslo — As New Year’s is one of my favorite holidays (perhaps given the stereotypical and sentimental reflection on the past year and channeling hopes and goals for the year to come) a few years back I opted to explore a city in one land from which my heritage beckons. Given my Scandinavian, to include Norwegian, ancestry I opted to spend this lovely holiday in Oslo (complete with a countdown dinner and celebration at [now closed] rooftop Stratos), and accordingly in accommodations steeped in history which also pertains, in part, of my family’s history. Upon discovering Amerikalinjen, I knew this hotel was the only one befitting my stay. The 19th century immigration of my ancestors stands central to the larger movement and wave of Norwegian immigration to America, whereby in 1919 Amerikalinjen opened its doors as the venerable Norwegian American Line’s headquarters — providing passage for Norwegians to a new world and their new lives.

The incredible role this historic building imbued proffered a unique welcome for me, especially given its role in the heritage of fellow Norwegian Americans today. And of course its accommodations also reflect an acute eye for incorporating these inspired details along with modern comfort and local design. Thus not only did its rich history appeal but also the convergence of its local design, warm and rich ambiance, and ode to exploration — especially inspired from those who headed to lands unknown in search of opportunity, such as my grandfather four generations back. Thus should you seek similar attributes, look no further in Oslo for history, exploration, refinement and sleek comfort to accommodate your Oslo stay.
